This lecture is presented by local Columbia alum Natan M. Meir,  the Lorry I. Lokey Professor of Judaic Studies and Academic Director of the Harold Schnitzer Family Program in Judaic Studies at Portland State University. He received his B.A., M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D degrees from Columbia University, where he studied history, specializing during his graduate years in modern Jewish history. He is the author of Kiev, Jewish Metropolis: A History, 1859-1914 (2010) and the forthcoming Stepchildren of the Shtetl: The Destitute, Disabled, and Mad of Jewish Eastern Europe, 1800-1939. He served as an academic consultant for the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center of Moscow. 

Event notes:

There is paid street parking and parking in the Art Building, but it can be limited, so you might consider taking public transportation or allowing time to find parking.

Also, we plan to start promptly at 6:30, the lecture will last roughly 40-50 minutes followed by time for Q & A.
